This week has been an example of do as I say, not as I do. If any
of you have meet with me for more than five minutes we may have discussed the
importance of sleep and how staying up late to cram is actually more harmful
than good.
Now in case you don’t know, I don’t discuss politics with most
people nor do I watch political talk shows. I save it all for the the Tuesday
after the first Monday in November every four years! Well, on Tuesday I stayed up to watch the
returns till 2am and then I got up at 5am when my husband woke. I had to tell
him what I saw!
All I can say is that I have been feeling the effects of lack of
sleep ever since. Each day gets a little
better. Oh, I don’t think I will do that ever again. (Ok, I will but not till
2016.)
I cannot imagine staying up that late every night to cram for a
test or complete homework. The toll it takes on the body is awful. I tell you
this with a renewed understanding of the side effects …. Don’t stay up to cram
or complete homework; it hurts the brain!

Helpful Tools
There are only four weeks (& 3 days) to go; almost done with
another semester. At this point you feel good or you are a little freaked. Either way,
this is a good time to take a step back and check yourself – because its
crunch time.
- Are you organized? If not, you need to take 30 minutes to get yourself organized because you need to be for the rest of the term.
- Do you have your study guides in order? Get them ready and keep adding to them.
- Review your study schedule. Can it be tweaked? Are you staying up late to study – you know how I feel about this… it is a big No No!
- Test yourself. Give yourself a pre-test after studying. You don’t have to rely on your instructor to give you a pre-test or study guide.
