Today is Friday; end of the work/school week… the beginning of the
weekend. Typically everyone looks forward to the weekend. Today however, things
are not going as I would like; just a few road bumps that I wasn’t
anticipating. I could let this change my outlook for the day or the weekend.
But I’m not going to give in.

MEPS
(Materials Engineering Professional Society)
- A group of students from Tianjin University are coming the first week of next February and are staying for 3 weeks. We need students from Virginia Tech to show them around Blacksburg. Five Virginia Tech students are able to travel to China in May. If anyone is interested in this experience they should contact Dr. Whittington or Dr. Aning.
- Any student wishing to attend AIST chapter and/or specialty conferences is eligible for up to $1000 in funding through the AIST Steel to Students Program. Funding includes travel, room, and food. Visit www.aist.org for more information and the Steel to Students application. Contact Mary Seals (mary.seals@vt.edu ) with any further questions.
- MEPS is currently seeking a new design for t-shirt and car window transfers. If you have an idea for a design please send it to Stephanie Sparks (sas23888@vt.edu).
- If you have photos of MEPS events please send them to Alexandra Egert (alexe09@vt.edu).
- MEPS has an opportunity to win $300 in the Capital One event called Trivia Night. This event will be held on reading day in the multipurpose room in the GLC. Email Morgan Brown (morganb4@vt.edu) if you are interested in participating.
Helpful Tools
1) Do you need complete silence to study? Or do you need a little
music? (Please don’t study with the TV on – you will get sucked into a Law and
Order marathon!)
If you are the type that enjoys a little music while you study you
may find www.8tracks.com to be of use. They
have created a list of songs termed the “ultimate study mix.” Check it out
here: http://8tracks.com/spiffynerd/hit-the-books
2) The Center for Instructional Development and Educational Research (CIDER) has developed a great tool for students to use if they would like to say thanks to a teacher. If there is someone you would like to thank for being a great teacher, influence or help please feel free to send them a note. Information about this great service can be found here: http://www.cideronline.org/thankateacher/
