First & most important – all returning MSE students are required to meet with me during course request. Who is a returning student? Are you graduating or transferring to a different department? If no, then you are a returning student and a meeting during course request is required.
Please do not wait until April 2 to schedule your meeting. Using the sign-in tool to select a meeting time it will be necessary to click on "expand all recurring meetings" to see all available dates, then click on the date to see available times.
Second. I previously sent a save the date notice regarding the Senior Banquet to everyone. As the banquet is customized around the seniors the event has changed and we have sent a limited the number of invitations; my apologies to everyone for sending the save the date notice prematurely.
Oh, the Easter Bunny will be leaving treats in the Advising Office next week. Make sure you stop by.

MEPS
The following
is from Alexandra Egert & Kirby Boone about E-Week. Please contact Kirby (kmanb91@vt.edu) if you have any questions.
The
E-Week Itinerary is as follows:
- Monday, March 25: Design Team Showcase in Hancock Atrium from 5pm-8pm
- Wednesday, March 27: Engineering Fun Fest On Norris Lawn from 5pm-8pm (teams set up begins at 4:45)
- Thursday, March 28: Q&A Session in Torg 3100 from 5:30pm-7:00pm
- This is a regular scheduled GAM
- Please note: all events include free food
This
year there will be substantial cash prizes for the design teams who have the
most points at the end of the week. Keep in mind that attending all
events during E-Week is required for winning the prize money. As is
shown in the point breakdown, volunteering to run the T-Shirt booth is a great
way to earn points. If you have more than one volunteer, just sign in more
than one when you arrive at the booth.
MEPS's
booth at E-Week will consist of "Materials Pong:" landing objects of
different material type (metal - nuts, polymer - bouncy balls, ceramic -
marbles) in cups at the end of a table. People who get a satisfactory
score will be awarded candy. What we need to win the prize money is maximum
participation by MEPS. It has been 3 or 4 years since we won E-Week and
it helps earn us money from the semesterly organization funds distributed by
the SEC.
Use the survey link below to sign up as a MEPS volunteer. It is necessary that you sign up in advance so we can report to SEC who from MSE will attend.
On a
lesser note, if anyone has about 5’x3’ feet of dense netting or some tarp-like
stuff, so that I don't have to find some from Lowes, that would be swell.
Helpful Tools
“Tell me about yourself” could be the most dreaded interview
question out there. Seriously people, you want to know about my crazy family or
that I can do the job! Unfortunately, potential
employers ask open ended questions like that all the time. There is a proper
way to respond to that question that could land you a second interview or even
the job.
It is true that an engineering interview will be different than a
human development interview in the area of technical and task related
questions. But when it comes to fishing out your personality the questions are
the same. You have the interview because
your resume indicated you have the technical skills to do the job. So now they
need to see if you are a good fit for the team, the department, the company.
The following link has tips on how to answer the most commonly
asked interview questions… how do you respond to “tell me about yourself” and many others.

MSE is looking to update our logo & we would like your input. I’m
accepting design ideas from now until the end of the term. Your design idea
needs to include a drawing or picture likeness of something MSE related,
initials “MSE,” and a slogan. I personally like something along the lines of “Hokie
Material.”

Hokie Trivia
The last trivia question asked:
How many whole eggs did dining services use during the week of
2/18 – 2/22?
18000, 1800 or 25000
>The correct answer is 18000.
