Technology is Amazing.

Due to the marvels of technology I am working on this weekly blog at home, sick. (I hope this is coherent.) There are so many marvels in technology that you can take advantage of that will help you in your academic career; calendar reminders, apps, on line flash cards & other study tools… the list is endless. I hope you use all of these. Wish they were around when I went to school in the dark ages.

As this is move-in week for on-campus students you are seeing a lot of new faces around town. A majority of these faces are freshmen (class of 2017). Each year, the incoming student body continues to raise the caliber of VT students:

• 224 international students;
• 343 students participating in the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets;
• 152 valedictorians and salutatorians;
• Students representing 1,337 high schools;
• 1,533 legacies (meaning their mother, father, grandparent, sister, and/or brother previously attended the university); and
• 27 sets of twins (32 sets of twins and one set of quadruplets entered as members of the Class of 2016 and 24 sets of twins entered as members of the Class of 2015).

• Senior photos will be October 7 & 8. Information to schedule your appointment coming soon.
• Run a DARS & let me know if something is incorrect.

• Add/Drop End, Friday, August 30.
• Welcome Back Picnic, Friday, September 6.

Helpful Tools

Do it Tomorrow (http://tomorrow.do/) is one of my favorite apps for remembering things & tasks. The app will allow you to add reminders but you cannot schedule it for two days from now… you can only schedule it for today or tomorrow! This is a tool that might end procrastination.

Scheduled meeting times are available 10-11:30 & 2-4, no appointment needed 1-2.

To schedule a meeting please log into your Scholar account. Under the MSE Undergraduate Advising Tab use the sign-in tool to select a meeting time. Please know it will be necessary to click on “expand all recurring meetings” to see all available dates, then click on the date you would like to schedule a meeting and the available times will show. Currently, meeting times are available through the end of September.
