Happy Friday 13th

Oh, wow. What a day. I have so much to share… where to start.

Let’s get business out of the way – required meetings! We have to get these done soon, people. MSE requires early fall meetings with all undergraduates. If you haven't scheduled your meeting, you should do so NOW.  Juniors and Seniors our meeting may only take 10 to 15 minutes. Sophomores, as this is our first meeting it will take a bit longer. I promise - it is painless.

Everyone is all excited and anxious for Expo next week. Can’t wait, who to see, what to say. So many things to think about.

First, do your research – who is coming; then study that company’s web site. Second, they will all tell you to apply on line. Apply before expo, then tell them you already have and then begin talking to them about the research you did …. What you are doing or want to do and connect it to what they are currently doing. Immediately write on the back of the card what you spoke about or something that will remind you of the conversation – so that when you follow up you can connect to the conversation.

Now for the most important part of Expo – what to wear. For this event I would suggest smart casual or business informal. I’ll explain with a link! But first…. Ladies, stand and put your hands down to you side. Your skirt must pass your fingertips. Guys, stand and look in the mirror. Your tie must pass your bellybutton but stop before the top of your zipper.

OK, the link to what to wear. This is the best link I’ve found for understanding what business casual really means. http://blog.mannixmarketing.com/dress-codes/

Helpful Tools
For over a year now I have been singing the praises of the Student Success Center. I’m not going to stop 'til I get each and every one of you enrolled in at least one of their workshops. Recently they hosted a work shop on Time Management – they will host this again in October. Next week they will host a work shop on Overcoming Procrastination.  If you have any problems keeping a schedule, getting things done on time or being habitually late you should attend at least one of these workshops.

My Schedule
If you cannot make your scheduled meeting time you need to be courteous to your fellow classmates & contact me to cancel the appointment. It is unfair to others to reserve time with me for yourself then not show up.

Scheduled meeting times are available 10-11:30 & 2-4, no appointment needed 1-2.
To schedule a meeting please log into your Scholar account. Under the MSE Undergraduate Advising Tab use the sign-in tool to select a meeting time. Please know it will be necessary to click on “expand all recurring meetings” to see all available dates, then click on the date you would like to schedule a meeting and the available times will show. Currently, meeting times are available through the end of September.
