Taking My Own Advice

Some people think and live by the thought process of ‘better late than never.’ Well, THAT makes my skin crawl!  My dad was in the service. Both my grandfathers were in the service. As a child, being late was never an option.  Let me just tell ya’ - being 5 minutes early was late. In fact, the very first thing I ever did late was give birth to my second child – he was a week late.  Before then, I had a perfect record.

Typically, I have the blog up and ready around 11am. Here it is 4:30 and I’m still working on it.  Do you have any idea how irritated I am with myself?

At this point, I have to take the advice I give you guys all the time...

  • Don’t be so hard on yourself
  • You cannot accomplish everything
  • It is ok to so 'no' to some projects

Senior Reminders
Senior photos will be taken October 7 & 8 in 107 Holden Hall.  The sign-up sheet will be available in the Mining office from 8am Tuesday, October 1 till noon, Friday, October 4.

The photographer will be taking two photos every 15 minutes. It is imperative that you be prompt - if you are late you will have to reschedule. You can purchase a composite at the time of your sitting for only $15 or $20 at a later date. See photographer for details.

Helpful Tools
Everyone talks about team work, team building, and how they enjoy team building. Teams are very important – you will always be part of a team. Face it; you are not on alone on an island!

Over the next few weeks I’m going to explore the idea of TEAMS. What it means to be in a team, types of teams, roles & responsibilities, characteristics of an effective team, and how to identity a dysfunctional team.

I hope that we can all agree that a team is a group of two or more people working toward a common goal.  However, teams are often formed for various reasons.  Some teams are formed to make recommendations. These teams are typically fast and constructive – handoff type of team. They make a decision for someone else to implement.

Then you have the teams that run things – the management team or the judicious team. And finally, you have the development team. This team is a where most of you want to be! This is the team that will make and do things. This development team is focused with specific performance goals.

Seat up or seat down? Oh, you know what I’m talking about…  Well, scientists have taken on this argument too.  http://www.scq.ubc.ca/up-or-down-an-efficiency-based-argument-for-optimal-toilet-seat-placement/

This just proves scientist will research anything.
