This morning at
the gym I was again trying to come up with something grand for the blog post.
But I had a train wreck of thoughts running through my brain: what to do this
weekend, what to put on the blog, is my son going to talk his dad into letting
him stay home, should I get new tennis
shoes. Then as I was doing my endless number of sit-ups I marveled at the sun
coming up.
As I was driving
in listening to the radio I heard the host refer to a caller as Sean. The
caller corrected her and said his name was Dean. So here I am; stuck on the English language.
Why is it so complex? Why do the letters S E A N enunciate shawn where the
letters D E A N enunciate dean. For once I would like someone to tell me where
the H is hiding in Sean? (Sorry Dr.
Corcoran)
Grammar rules! Don’t
get me started. ‘I before E except after
C.’ What kind of rule is that…? It’s like me saying ‘3-1=2 except when I have doughnuts.’
The developers of
the English language succeeded at their two goals. #1 drive dyslexic people mad & #2
make it the hardest second language to learn.
