Let the Smack Talk Begin

I have heard that there are a few of you who think you can take my road. Challenge accepted! Just know these two things… 1) there is the nice adviser Michelle and then there is Catan Michelle and 2) what happens at the island stays at the island.

Some who are reading this are wondering what is she talking about. Settlers of Catan; possibly the best game, EVER.  Many of you have recently learned the game and instantly became addicted. The rest of you are cautiously intrigued or worried.  Those who are up for it – GAME ON.

Helpful Tools
Last week we examined the five generations at that are in the work place and their workplace characteristics. This week we are going to build on that and examine the difference in communication.

One of the most important factors in any work place is the ability to communicate effectively. A lot of us like to think we are effective communicators. But are we really? Do you communicate to a Gen Y the same way you would a Veteran?

What would you think if a Baby Boomer said to you, ‘We need to get the report done?’
Did you understand that statement as an indication that the report needed to be finished now?

Each generation has its own unique form of communication, semantics, and ques. Failure to recognize and adapt to the difference can lead to a breakdown in communication of the organization.  As members of an organization, you have an obligation to recognize the differences and be proactive in adapting your methods of communication.
