50 Years

What to know something strange? I personally don’t think it’s strange but some think it’s weird.  I have never eaten a Pop-Tart.  I cannot bring myself to do it. All that dry dough around a thin layer of jelly. Why? And then some of them have a layer of dry icing. Uck. I don’t want dry icing on my cupcake let alone a dried-up-jelly-filled-pastry.

When Pop-Tarts were first introduced 50 years ago grocery store managers received instructions indicating, “IN NO WAY SHOULD THIS PRODUCT BE SOLD AS A SUBSTITUTE FOR CEREAL.”

Why am I telling you all this? Well, some inventions are here to stay. Others not so much … Also invented 50 years ago was the push-button telephone, the computer mouse, hypertext, the hang-glider, cassette tapes, and Weight Watchers.

Of these 50 year old inventions some have been replaced by new, better, technology. While some just saw design improvements. That is the interesting thing about technology, engineering, science and discovery – it never stops.
