Catching Up

Are you all refreshed and ready for the week? Over the weekend, did you catch up on all the sleep you missed during the past week?

I know that you know that doesn’t make up for missing a full night’s sleep earlier in the week. The effects of not getting a nights sleeps cannot be undone – the damage is done. Kinda like those missing brain cells.

Timing is everything – isn’t it! This morning I read an article “5 Amazing Things Your Brian Does While You Sleep.”  I recommend that everyone read the article, but in short (for those that won’t)…. Sleep does the body good becuase:

  1. Makes decisions – this goes along with the “phrase sleep on it.” The brain processes complex stimuli during sleep and uses this info to make decisions while awake.
  2. Creates and consolidates memories – helps cement new information for better recall. This is what I have been telling you all along – what you learn goes to long term memory when you get sleep.
  3. Makes creative connections – people have that moment when you wake where it all comes together, that “a-ha” moment.
  4. Clears out toxins – lack of sleep means your brain cannot clean itself & which could leave to Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s.
  5. Learns and remembers how to perform physical tasks – storing info related to motor tasks; get more sleep if you are trying to improve your golf or tennis game.
