16 Things

On the drive in this morning the DJs were discussing an article one of them had read on-line title “16 Things That Are Just Never As Good After College.” They only talked about two of the 16; so I was intrigued to find the other 14. Here they are in order – with my thoughts of course!
  1. Having a party anthem – Since when? I typically still host a Festivus party every December.
  2. Napping – Again, since when?
  3. Pulling an all-nighter – Agree, this is never a good idea.
  4. Going to the library – Ok, maybe. I’m in and out of my public library so fast that I only see stay at home moms taking the little ones to the library for reading day.
  5. Drinking games – I will admit that I played a game in my time. But reflecting back I realize they ever a good idea.
  6. Making new friends – This make since after you read the author’s logic.
  7. Eating – So true.
  8. Casual hook-ups – Never a good idea.
  9. Learning – As Hokies, you are committed to lifelong learning. As you are scientist and engineers I would argue that you will be learning for years to come.
  10. House parties – Yeah, don’t do this. Your 'friends' will destroy your house.
  11. Wearing pajamas in public – NEVER DO THIS. NEVER. EVER. NOT NOW NOT EVER.
  12. Bar crawls – Don’t do this either.
  13. Theme parties – Theme party to celebrate the snow melting? Maybe.
  14. Yelling – Really? Seriously… Then someone needs to tell my bother to stop.
  15. Public vomiting – never cool
  16. Drinking out of red plastic cups – it’s a dead giveaway; in and out of college.

Helpful Tools
It is my goal to each and every one of you to take at least one workshop offered by the Student Success Center. The workshop is up to you … if you need help with test taking, studying, taking notes, and overcoming procrastination – whatever it is they have a workshop for.

Today I’m strongly suggesting you attend the Mid-Semester Check: Taking Back the Semester. This is for all of you who start strong then fall into a slump. If you don’t want to believe me, then you should believe what other students have said about the workshop.
  • “I really enjoyed this workshop! It motivated me to get on the ball and start getting organized.”
  • “All the topics related to what I am going through at this point in the semester. I definitely plan on using the skills discussed in the workshop.”
  • “I was able to learn about new ways of studying/learning the materials I had to get ready for.”
Wednesday, March 26 from 5:30-8:00 PM

No, you’re not just seeing things. This split-colored lobster displays a condition known as gynandromorphy, meaning it is half male, half female. In this case, the blue side is the female side, and the brown side is the male side. This genetic variation occurs in about 1 out of every 50 million lobsters. Gynandromorphs aren’t always split neatly down the middle; they can also be calico patterned.
